I may be able to borrow some solar panels (55watt). I'll check this weekend and see what I can come up with.
Thanks,
Zeb

There's also the option of using headphones for the rig stations. I was mostly speaking from experience with the swing club--we've never had anyone object to us having laptops out and playing music from them, but it was never loud enough to carry further than neighboring tables.
I think I have a couple tiny solar panels hidden away--they run about a volt total I think? Not sure how useful they'll be, but if we could throw together an array it could work.

John,
If there's anything in particular you'd like to present on, like a favourite topic or something interesting in radio that you think gets frequently overlooked, feel free! We'd be glad to hear any topic you choose. The regular meeting room in Broun has a projector in it, as well as a whiteboard.
I've been told that the amplified sound permits only apply if we use external amplification; the speaker on the radio itself supposedly doesn't count. I'll check into that some more before next Tuesday.
Solar panels would be awesome! I'm going to add that to the agenda for next week. Even if we don't get them in time for O-Days this semester, it would still be neat to make the club more sustainable, etc., in the future.
$20? Fantastic! We were expecting to spend $70-$100 on the tent. I'll have to ask Dr. Hung to break out the radio club purchasing card for us, haha.
Thanks! Hope you can make it next week!
SueAnne

Hi SueAnne;
Sorry I could not attend. I was replacing the receiver, transmitter and repeater controller hardware at the 146.960 repeater here in Tallapoosa County. Very good notes and sounded like a good meeting. A couple of comments:
- If the AUARC wants a short presentation on a particular area of ham radio, I'd be glad to try and oblige. I just need a few weeks notice and a computer projector for the room we'd be in. Please note, however, I will not be available a couple of weeks the first half of September because of previous commitments.
- O-Days: Glad to see the AUARC getting some visibility with this. A note from past participation there: AUARC had to get a special exemption from the rules of O-Day that you could not have any amplified audio. This is supposed to keep people from playing loud music and using PA systems, but obviously AUARC needs to show output from radios as part of the 'magic'. So, make sure AUARC has that permission in writing and that the organizers have an understanding of this so AUARC does not get shut down inadvertently. Also, batteries for an HF radio would be good, and a solar panel would be even better. Renewable energy and all that.
- Canopy: I am guessing you mean one of those little 10 x 10 pop-up things with a cover, which I tend to call 'gazebos'. For several months now, our local Winn-Dixie has had them for $20! I don't know if the W-D's in Auburn do, nor if there are any left here, but I will check and you let me know, too. I guess you get what you pay for here. Our 'AU' one was about $150, but I think we were paying as much for the logo licensing as the structure.
Hope to see the group next week. 73

Welcome back everyone!
We held our first meeting of semester tonight. Attached are the minutes. We will continue meeting Tuesdays at 18:00 in Broun 235 unless otherwise noted. Also, if you have any personal items in the radio room, be sure to mark your possessions in the inventory list in the club wiki (http://wiki.eng.auburn.edu/k4ry/doku.php).
If you have any topics you'd like to present on in an AUARC meeting, let me (sng0005 at auburn.edu<mailto:sng0005 at auburn.edu>) or Chris (chrishatch2 at gmail.com<mailto:chrishatch2 at gmail.com>) know at least a week in advance so we can plan accordingly.
Coming soon: Auburn Radio Club shirt orders!
73,
SueAnne Griffith
