TL;DR: We did a lot of work on the shack. I really want us to put on an
O-Days booth. Does anyone have ideas for Field Day-ish activities for
O-Days?
Hey all!
Zeb, Jeff, and I did a little work this weekend up at the shack. Here's the
skinny:
- The 80m dipole has been tied off again, but has not been tested with
an HF rig.
- The donated Kenwood(?) 2m/70cm rig is up and working. It has a
detachable faceplate, which Zeb and Jeff have pretty neatly mounted above
the computer on the right side of the room.
- We got the desktop shelves in and further rearranged the shack to
clear up some space. The walls are looking bare, though.
- On Friday, Zeb got outgoing RF working on the igate, so if you want
access to that contact him for information.
- Zeb has been doing a *ton* of work uploading pictures and putting
information on the wiki <http://wiki.eng.auburn.edu/k4ry>. If anyone has
any time or knowledge about club affairs, history, or elmerish advice to
share there, I'm sure he would appreciate it.
That's all the news about what *has* happened, so now I have some questions
about upcoming events.
Fall O-Days are September 2-5, with slots for either Tuesday/Wednesday or
Thursday/Friday. I've created a time coordination survey to try to figure
out if we have the ability to man a table for the event. The times we
*need* people
there are 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM for the two days we register for. I added in
the hours before and after to see if we would have extra time to set
up/break down. Here's the link <http://doodle.com/43xdnuu6t9hnsvy8#table>,
just add your name and check the appropriate boxes.
I'd love to see us do some Field Day style activities during O-Days at some
point this semester--there's one every week. I'm not sure what the best
course of action would be here. Does anyone have any experience setting up
Field Day antennas/power supplies and verifying emissions? Does anyone know
what restrictions there are for doing so on campus? I'd love to set up a
GOTA station with an HF rig if possible.
If anyone has any other interesting ideas for activities to get people in
the door, let me know. Zeb and I put the finishing touches on one of his
foxhunt antennas over the weekend, and we have heard a lot of good
suggestions from Mike and Keith about other antennas to look into. A QRP
station could also be very interesting--the two keyers I've seen up in the
shack are really cool.
73,
Benjamin Dill
