Hello everyone;

I stopped by the Club room in Broun Hall today as a general check on things
 and all looked well. I made one contact up in Tennessee on 40 meters with
 a good report. I did not notice much directivity of the Mosely beam on
that band, but signals were up and down.

When I was securing the station and removing the RF patch cord from the
rear of the HF transceiver, I noticed that it felt like the plug section of
the PL-259 was loose. When I inspected it more closely by backing off the
coupling ring, I found that the braid hadn't been soldered at all to the plug
 shell! There was considerable green 'gunk' (technical term) inside the
connector on the copper braid.

I have removed the patch cable from the room in order to repair it, and it
will be returned probably next week. In the interim, if you want to work
HF, please bring along a coax patch cord at least two feet in length with
PL-259's on each end. I did not see another available cable in the room
with the right connectors.

The room was secured just prior to 1500 CDT.
