Our program for the evening will be presented by Dick Jaeger, K4IQJ and
Dick will be discussing the digital mode FT8.

After the program, club member Dan Gunter, KK4ICE will speak briefly about
a new repeater frequency coordination system for the state of Alabama.
Repeater owners, trustees and sponsors will find it very informative and
interesting.

Overview of the Basic and DXpedition Versions of FT8

The adoption of FT8 Digital Communications Software (FT8 = “Frank-Taylor
8-FSK”)* on the HF bands by DXers has occurred with unprecedented
rapidity. The band segments utilized by FT8 are now loaded with stations
communicating worldwide with low power and basic antennas. K4IQJ will
discuss the structure and operation of both forms of FT8 and contrast them
with several of the other modes. Examples of both FT8 modes of operation
will also be presented.

*FT8 is one of many modes (MS, WSPR, JT65, JT9, FT8, etc.) available in the
latest WSJT-X software release. All modes are for weak signal
communication.
