Subject: [K4RY] Meeting Tomorrow

We'll be meeting as usual in Broun 235 at 6:30pm. The ARRL School Club Roundup started today, February 10th, and runs through the end of the week until Friday, February 14th. We are allowed to operate the radio for 6 hours a day and for no longer than 24 hours in the week. The contest takes place on all amateur radio frequencies except 60m (which is channelized), and 30m, 17m, and 12m (the WARC bands<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WARC_bands>). The ARRL has some suggested frequencies on their webpage<http://www.arrl.org/school-club-roundup> but as far as I know you are permitted to make contacts on any frequency.

If you have a Technician license, you can participate! There is even a voice part of the HF spectrum set aside for you, so you don't need to know Morse code. You can operate from 28.3 MHz to 29.5 MHz in the 10m band. A lot of you probably either haven't spoken on the radio or use one much outside the 2m repeater, so we'll discuss how to legally operate the radio on your own in this portion of the spectrum and how to make contacts. If you'd like to operate in the general or extra part of the spectrum, someone there with a license should be able to provide guidance.

You can try making contacts with a handheld or car radio on the 2m band if you want but you are not permitted to use repeaters. The ARRL permits the following frequencies for the 2m band: 144.90-145.00 MHz; 146.49 MHz, 146.55 MHz, and 146.58 MHz; and 147.42 MHz, 147.45 MHz, 147.48 MHz, 147.51 MHz, 147.54 MHz, and 147.57 MHz. 146.52 MHz may not be used since this is the national calling frequency.

You can also participate if you do not have a license. I've got a license and I'll be in the shack most evenings this week so if you'd like a chance to get on the air let me know.

In other news, elections are coming up. If you'd like to run for a position think about what you'd like to run for. You can announce what you're running for at the meeting. We'll hold elections at the meeting after this one.
