Current word on Repeater-Builder is that slow machines are only required 
for certain older radios. 

Fujitsu Stylistic 500 is a 486DX2-50, will operate around 25MHz on 
"slow" and runs on Sony Infolithium batteries or clones of that battery. 
That's what I use. But I also made a power adapter for it that lets it 
run off of 12V @ 1.5A (using that 1500mA Radio Shack transformer I 
bought years ago). 

I've heard that the Saber is one of the radios that can be bricked; I 
think anything you do to a Maxtrac or Radius can generally be undone.

Look around for IBM PS/2s. The Model 70 was a 386-33 generally, and the 
Model 50/60/80 were often 286 or 386 systems. IBM shielded them very 
well.
