Subject: Auburn D-RATS reflector now online and passed the first phase of testing!

Greetings to Alabama ARES members!

SUCCESS! We installed the D-Star D-rats reflector for text messaging
and today we made the
first connection and passed text messages. Patrick Scott, WX4RES and
myself, WX4AL
entered the drats.auburn.edu server address in the d-rats software and
instantly connected.
We passed text messages back and forth and it worked wonderfully.
Thanks to Kendall
Price here at Auburn for his work in installing the software and
configuring it on our
Linux server.

Here is how you add the drats.auburn.edu "raflector" to your drats software:

DRATS Download:
http://d-rats.danplanet.com/download/v0.3.x/d-rats-0.3.3-installer.exe

Here are the settings for D-RATS v0.3.3 after you have installed it.

Press <ALT+P> to open the config window.

Enter your Callsign and Name
Sign-on and Sign Off boxes are checked
Units: Choose Imperial or Metric
Show Time in UTC: Your choice of UTC or Local
Language: English
Blink Tray on Incoming Messages, New Chat Messages, Incoming files
boxes are checked

Choose your own parameters for Paths, GPS, Appearance, Chat and Sounds

1. Under Preferences, be sure your callsign is correct.

2. Under GPS, Set your latitude and longitude.
Use the lookup button to find your address.

3. Under Sounds, assign wav files for each event if you wish.

4. Under Messages, enable "Automatically Forward Messages".
Set Queue flush interval to 30 seconds.
Set Station TTL to 600 seconds.

5. Under Transfers, enable "Remote File Transfers".

Winlink Server: server.winlink.org Port: 8772

Radio: Enabled Click on the existing port to highlight it, then click
the EDIT Button:
Enter Host Address: drats.auburn.edu Port: 9000 Type: Network No password

If you want to add other host addresses for drats servers, repeat the
Radio process
and add Host Address I recommend that you add this server:
ref.d-rats.com Port: 9000
and leave it unchecked (not enabled). This can serve as a backup if
the drats.auburn.edu
server is down for some reason.

Make sure that your computer's firewall will allow the application to access the
internet in both direction. In Windows click on START, CONTROL PANEL and then
click on WINDOWS FIREWALL. Click on the Exceptions tab, click Add
program, browse
for the D-RATS program, click OK. If you have a router that
distributes internet in
your home or radio shack and it has a built-in firewall, insure that you turn on
port forwarding on the firewall in both directions for port 9000.

You can chat, send messages in several formats and even do file transfers.

See you on the net.

73,
Mike
WX4AL
