Subject: VESS IDIQ Opportunity: Develop Methods to Analyze Trip Recorder Data to Access Safety Performance

Hi,

We received a new VTTI VESS IDIQ request.  This one is entitled:  "Develop Methods to Analyze Trip Recorder Data to Access Safety Performance" - please see attached for a detailed description.

VTTI would like to know whether we are interested in participating in a proposal in response to this RFP - we need to reply by 11 am (central time) on 01/21/2025.

If you are interested in participating, please let Ernest (ernest.tufuor at auburn.edu<mailto:ernest.tufuor at auburn.edu>) know your "level of interest and any questions you may have for VTTI" by 01/21/2025 at 10 am (central time).  Please cc Dr. Rilett (rilett at auburn.edu<mailto:rilett at auburn.edu>) on your response.

Note that it is usually best to indicate which tasks listed in the RFP that you would like to be involved in and your desired role (PI, co-PI, researcher,...).  Providing a short CV/bio illustrating your background in the area is also helpful. Ernest will collate the AU response and pass it on to VTTI who is putting together the proposal team.

Please don't hesitate to pass on this opportunity to others at AU who you might think would be interested.

p.s.  For those unfamiliar with the VTTI VESS IDIQ, it might help to provide some background.   VTTI put the team together that won the Vehicle Electronic Systems Safety IDIQ competition.  We are a partner in their IDIQ.

Each team (e.g., VTTI and its competitors) can submit a proposal when an NHTSA RFP comes out.  VTTI asks their partners, of which AU is one, to indicate interest in participating in the proposal. This is the reason this email was sent out.

The College has asked AUTRI to coordinate our response to these requests - basically, we find out who is interested in the proposal and then collate our response to VTTI.  We do not make any decisions about teams or what information gets forwarded to VTTI.

For a given VESS IDIQ request VTTI could choose to let us lead the proposal (which never has happened since we've been doing this), choose us as a partner (which happens occasionally), or simply say thanks but no thanks (more typical).

The first step is identifying who is interested in participating in the proposal.  Once they get the responses from all their IDIQ partners (including private firms)  VTTI decides on the proposal team without any input from us.  They then reach out to the individuals to get feedback on the approach, identify workload, begin writing the proposal, etc.  Once the proposal process moves forward members can be added or subtracted, as appropriate - very similar to any proposal writing process.
