You need the VxVM Fast Mirror Resync option to speed up plex resync.
DRL is used to track where things have been written on an active plex,
to speed up recovery after a server crash. To speed up resilvering of a
split off plex,
you need FMR.
talk with your VERITAS rep.

Subject: [Veritas-vx] how to do a backup database using mirror split
Hi all !
We need to do a backup of our Oracle database everyday. These days we are
doing an offline backup. But size of the db is almost 100GB, so it takes 3+
hours. And the users are really unhappy when the db is down. The idea is :
"shutdown db, split a mirror, startup db, do backup from cutted plexes,
synchronize it again". Everything seems to be ok, but synchronizing runs for
a very long time. So we have created a dirty region log to speed up the
proccess of synchronizing a plexes. But we can't see any improvement ...
What is wrong ?
This is how we doing that:
1) umount a volume
2) stop volume
3) dissociate a plex ( vxplex -g rootdg -v vol1 dis vol1B)
4) create a new volume
5) start new volume
6) start & mount old & temp volumes
7) do a backup from temp volumes
8) umount temp volume
9) stop temp volume, dissociate plex, remove plex
10) do a synchronization with an original plex -> but this runs for
a very long time, are DRL in use ?
Is this procedure ok ?
Thanks a lot for any advice !
