[Veritas-ha] Samfs Mounts

You can read the VCS Agent Developers Guide as a good starting point.

For a quick resolution, talk to your VERITAS rep about having
VERITAS Enterprise Consulting come in and write the agent
for you (or your VAR team's professional services)

Jim,

Can you give me a brief synopsis on how to create a custom agent for
non-standard mounts, or is this covered somewhere in the Veritas
documentation?

Thanks,

Mark

So.....
If it does not behave exactly like a Solaris block device type
FileSystem, the mount agent supplied with VCS will fail.
It expects VxFS or UFS.

Sounds like a need for a custom agent.

Its a HSM filesystem that comes with the ASM product.
It uses standard block devices, however it does so
behind the scenes.

In vfstab, the block device is defined as a
label, like "samwork3", as opposed to /dev/dsk/etc..

Heres a typical definition in vfstab.

samwork3 - /samwork3 samfs - yes -

So, its defined more so like a tmpfs device.

Yikes.
can someone give me the five minute course on what samfs is?
This is the second question I have seen on this.

The mount agent can mount a standard block device, with what I
always considered to be standard file systems. VxFS and UFS.
I would need more info on the samfs stuff.

My samfs filesystems use shared storage (Clariion RAID arrays with ATF).
They are mounted and shared out via NFS. Will the standard Mount Agent
bundled with VCS be able to mount these without problems? I am having
trouble with them. The directories will mount, but VCS doesn't recognize
them as being mounted (the resources fail). I have read in this list's
archives that you can fool VCS by using FileOn. Can someone explain how to
do that?

Thanks,

Mark
