[Veritas-bu] Not reading bar codes very well

Not reading bar codes very wellDaniel,

Welcome to the club! We've just the same fun & games here on an ATL P3000 library (As I recall
the L1000 is a rebadged ATL box). First they changed the robot (gripper etc) -- no dice. Next
was changing a PCB and the hanging umbilical cord. Finally changing another PCB solved the problem.

Since the library is about 3 years old, the "memory" card (where it records inventory etc) was
going flaky so correctly read barcodes were then being jumbled as you have seen.

Now if, in your case, the barcode reader itself is the "weak link" then try turning off the room
lights where the library is so that contrast around the barcode reader is increased (i.e. you'll
only have the internal light(s) (which I guess are still OK??)). I had to do this when we lost
one of the internal lights (and then the other -- same age, I guess) and it made a 100% difference
to the accuracy.

Good Luck!

Richard.

  Looking for suggestions...................................

We have a Sun-L1000 tape library.
It has started having problems reading bar code labels.

When we execute an inventory (from the library, not via NetBackup), 25-30% of the tapes in the library
  are reported as "no barcode."

We then have to play games, manually moving tapes from slot-to-slot, or slot-to-load port, until
the bar code is successfully read.

  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  Thanks.
