It has had a variety of drive sizes in it, most recently 8 x 4G drives in tray 1 and 8 x 9G drives in tray 2. I removed the remaining 2G drives from tray 3 altogether. The problem now is that the array won't power on. When the power switch is turned on, the AC LED on the PS comes on and stays on, but the DC LED (and the front panel display) briefly flash on and then go off. The fans also briefly spin up and go off as well. That's it. This happens with all the drive trays in place and with no drive trays in place. I have a spare power supply, fan tray, and array controller. No combination of parts will make this work as far as I can tell. Batteries all test good, too. The only electrical part I do not have a spare for is the backplane. Anyone have any suggestions for me? This array has been providing fiber connections to two Ultra 2s running Sun Cluster, so I can't replace it that easily. Thanks in advance. A replacement fixed the problem. Seems that a lot of Sun sourced power supplies tend to fail after simple maintenance (most especially the PS devices in our Sun Ultra Enterprise 2 servers). It should be working, it was a spare I purchased several years ago.
