Question concerning Raid Manager default partition table

when building a disk using solaris-intel 7 the default partitioning included
a slice for alternates and one to cover boot block. at the time i was a
bit surprised by this. something like 0-1 boot, 2-4 alternates.
admittedly the install does not create these, but i recreated the root
drive manually and these popped up. someone from sun might like to
confirm this behaviour can occur.
whilst almost all of you guys are SPARC, i'll flag this as an additional
gotacha. in this case the use of slice 2 could potentially cause
1. damage to boot block
2. overwriting of data by 'installboot'
3. overwriting of data by alternates (although unlikely)
so solaris may not be totally agnostic on slice 2. personally, i never use
it except for 'dd' of the entire surface to backup drive.
