Yes, maximum cable length between E4000 and SSA drops
from 2 km to 500 m so your 300 m length should be okay.
(according to FC standard)

Note you can't [easily or supportably] share this with
anything else (FDDI for example).

May or may not be true, I can't personally remember whether
this was ever tested internally or not -- if not, then Sun
wouldn't support it, even if it appeared to work at first.
(after all, lots of things appear to work at first, and
there's enough work supporting stuff we "know" works let
alone stuff that just "should work"  :-)

Sorry I'm not more specific on that last point!  Perhaps
someone in the storage group is listening.

By the way, the length limits are more strict on A5000's
at the higher FC/AL speed -- 500 m for 50 micron, and from
memory about 125 m with 62.5 micron.
