Radio Club,

There will be no meeting next week, so that everyone can focus on participating in the School Club Roundup and the numerous outreach events we have planned for the next few days. Look for a separate email this weekend regarding rules and setup for SCR.

About those "outreach events"... the club has recieved many invitations to help teach about radio and electronics; I apologize for the short notice for some of the events, but I just found out within the past day or so for some of them. If you can't make it to any of the events, consider turning your radio to one of the repeaters so that the kids can talk to you briefly on-air.

This coming Monday, the 19th, is Auburn Junior High's Engineering Day (E-Day). Electrical Engineering will, of course, have a table, and we've been asked to help out with talking to students. Radio club will have a radio set up at the table, along with IEEE and some robots. The E-Day will last from 8:00 until 15:00, so drop by whenever you get the chance and stay however long is convenient for you.

Then, Wednesday the 21st, Auburn's Department of Public Safety has invited us to join them on the concourse from 10:00 to 14:00 to distribute information about Fall Severe Weather Awareness and amateur radio's roll in emergencies (ARES, etc.). Again, stop by if you have the chance to help man the table. That afternoon, there will also be a storm spotter class in the Public Safety Building on Magnolia in the Village; it's free to attend and is put on by the Birmingham Office of the National Weather Service. If you're interested in getting involved with ARES, this is good info to know.

Saturday, the 24th, is Loachapoka High School's Robotics Competition and Maker Faire. We've been promised multiple tables at the Maker Faire, so bring any and all cool projects, gadgets, antique electronics, etc., to show off. We will, of course, have the station and club info set up there, as well.

The following Monday, the 26th, is Junior Mad Scientist Day from 17:30 - 19:30. We'll have two tables - one for antique radios and computers and one for modern equipment. Similar to last year, the modern table will have the HF rig for kids to talk on, a display about circuits using a Morse keyer, and maybe an oscilloscope of another piece of equipment. The setup for Jr. MSD is supposed to be sort of open-house like, with stations where kids can stop, do a quick experiment/experience like use the radio or spell their name in Morse, get a sticker, and move on to the next bench. If you're interested in helping out, let me know!

One last thing: We've been invited to present in Dr. Wentworth's radio lab lecture one Monday afternoon in Broun 239. The class is from 14:00-14:50, and our options for dates are November 2, 9 and 16. If you can attend and have a preference for the date, send an email!

73,
SueAnne (KK4UWV)
