Happy summer, everyone!

The ARRL's Field Day event takes place annually on the fourth weekend of June; the dates this year are 13:00 on the 27th to 15:59 on the 28th, Central time. For those unfamiliar with the event, the objective is to "learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions" (http://www.arrl.org/field-day). This isn't a contest, but instead is a great opportunity for an outdoor, radio related get-together. According to the ARRL, it's the largest annual radio event in the US and Canada, so, of course, we have to participate.

The club has rented the Upper Pavilion at Chewacla State Park for the entirety of Sunday, June 28th, so that we can have easy access to electrical outlets, camping grills, shade, picnic tables, and bathrooms. The pavilion is on top of the highest hill in the park and is situated next to a large field (for a proper field day) and convenient parking. Everyone and their radios are welcome, of course; you don't have to be a student or even a licensed member to show up. We'll have a cook-out and such, too, if enough people bring food. Potluck!

If you're interested in going to our Field Day event, please please please RSVP here to assist with planning: http://goo.gl/forms/nk0Dc131Zm. A flyer is also attached to this email, if you should happen to want one. For all of you who have left town for the summer, you can find a Field Day event near you with this interactive map: http://www.arrl.org/field-day-locator.

On a completely unrelated note, the items the club ordered with the SGA funds have come in! These include a full library of radio related books from the ARRL, a HackRF to play experiment with, and a gel cell battery to be used as a backup for one of the repeaters on the roof of Haley. If you want to offer expertise with the battery instalation, let us know. The rest of the new stuff is available to al members in the shack in Broun.

One last thing: to keep up to date with the day-to-day adventures of the radio club, you can follow us on Twitter<http://twitter.com/k4ryarc> and Facebook<https://facebook.com/k4ryarc>.
