Analog meters are useful in several ways, one of them is that they work 
with little power! On the other hand, you may find that your meter 
driver could use some electrical dampening to protect the meter from 
sudden movements. And then there's smoothing functions to apply to the 
signal so you don't attempt to vibrate the needle off the bearing. (But 
that's a simple R/C sort of thing.)
