[K4RY] Haley Center Roof Replacement issues..

Mike Watkins and I attended the meeting to discuss the Haley Center antennas. Notes relevant to K4RY:
1. Roof replacement is supposed to start during Christmas break, likely the Monday after fall commencement.
2. Questions were raised about antennas that are mounted on skids, weighted by concrete blocks. They will have to be moved around during the roof work (but will be replaced). I don't believe any K4RY antennas are involved.
3. Mike and I said the two K4RY antennas are bolted onto the side of the elevator "doghouse" (as I call it). It was agreed there should be no problem.
4. The grounding system "halos" on the roof will likely be disturbed, but will be retightened. Many connections have already deteriorated.
5. The "elephant in the room" is WEGL. It was reported that WEGL plans to either shut down (or decrease power) during the roof renovation.
6. It was agreed that all antennas and cables should be tagged. Pictures should be taken. There will be a gathering next Wednesday, 10 a.m. to do this. Meet at the Haley Center loading dock. Mike Watkins will tag stuff for K4RY; I am headed out of town. Anyone interested in helping can join. WEGL should have its transmitter power dialed back for safety.
7. K4RY will shut off its two repeaters during the few days of roof replacement. This is partly for worker safety (though our power levels are relatively much lower than WEGL), but more importantly to protect the transmitters in case something is accidentally shorted on the roof.

Sincerely,

John Hung

The message the Mike Watkins received is likely a general one for a group of stakeholders. (Curiously, I did not receive such a message.) Some installations (like K4RY) may be totally OK, but others may have some work to do. John K's notes from 2010 can be presented at the meeting to confirm whether K4RY is "in the clear." The message probably should have been written, "It will be the owners' responsibility to move their antennas -- IF NECESSARY." Let's hope K4RY falls out side of that group.

I will also try to make the meeting today,

Mike: The person from the CA office that examined the antennas with me was 'Margaret Nicolosi'. She stated at that time unequivocably that AUARC would not need to move its antennas in any way for the Haley Center re-roofing project. This was in 2010, by the best I can see by email.

I'd like to understand if and why they have now changed their tune.

Greetings Everyone,

Haley Center is due to get a roof replacement soon and the issue is with antennas
on the roof. This is the email I received from the project manager:

I want to have a meeting with all of you tomorrow to discuss the radio antennas on top of Haley Center.
There will be a calendar appointment following this email. As part of the roof replacement project,
we cannot make the roofing contractor responsible for moving any of the antennas. It will be the owner’s
responsibility to move their antennas. This will be part of the discussion I would like to have with all of you
tomorrow at 1:00 PM in the Facilities Training Room of building #2. If any of you cannot attend, the next time
I will propose will be Friday at 11:00 AM, please respond to the outlook appointment. Thank you and have nice day.

I will be attending the meeting tomorrow to learn the specifics of the scope of the project.

Respectfully,
Mike
