Dear Instructors,

This is the first email to be sent to COMP1000 students before the first class tomorrow/day after tomorrow depending on when you teach.
Please edit this email to suit you and send to your respective sections.

Hello Everyone,

My name is Onyinye Rosemary Asogwa and you can call me ‘Rosemary’. I will be your Comp1000 (Personal Computer Application) instructor for Fall 2018.
Our first class commences today – 08/20. Please ensure that you attend the class because you will get all the necessary information you need to pass this course.

The COMP 1000 material has upgraded from Office 2013 to Office 2016 and so the old material is no more valid. Please DO NOT borrow books from your friends who have already taken this course, especially if they have taken it before Fall 2017. They might have old material which might not be relevant to you. We would be using Microsoft Office 2016 Fundamentals (Fourth Edition) and Microsoft SharePoint book (2 books in total) which are custom made for Auburn University. These books are not sold individually and would have to be bought together as a package. This package also contains a SINGLE-USER ACCESS CODE that you will use to register yourself on Pearson's website called MyITLab (also called MyLabIT). This website is required for weekly homework assignments and exams. You should purchase the new custom package from any bookstore around the campus (AU bookstore, J&M, Anderson bookstore). Access codes cannot be borrowed because they are valid for one person and one semester only. You MUST buy the package (2 books which includes the access code) otherwise you won't be able to take the exams and MyLabIT homework assignments.

If you plan to buy only the access code and borrow old books, then I would like to tell you that there is not much difference between the price of the complete package with books and just the access code. So, it's better to buy the complete package. In addition, I would not suggest buying COMP 1000 books/package from an online platform. The availability of correct books cannot be guaranteed from such platforms.

Today, I will walk you through the Course Introduction, which is very important to get all the information about COMP 1000. This first class is vital because it equips you with all the information you need to get an A in this class and I must say that it is very easy! Please plan to attend this class. In addition, I will also help you register for COMP 1000 on MyITLab. Your next two classes will be on the MyITLab so, it's important for you to register successfully on it so that you don't fall behind others throughout the class. You need the one-time access code that comes with the complete COMP 1000 package, to register on the MyITLab. So, please buy the package and bring the code (orange envelope) with you today.

There is also a "Student and Instructor Contract" link on the home page of canvas. It is a mandatory and ungraded survey containing just 2 questions which every student is required to answer at the end of the first class to confirm that you have understood the class syllabus, expectations and requirements as a student.

I am looking forward to meeting you all.

Kind regards,

Onyinye Rosemary Asogwa
