Hi Dave,
It's come to my attention that we a number of deprecated, custom zero-occupant vehicles (Nuro R2) that we are interested in donating to a university. Based on our previous conversations and an interest in obtaining Nuro vehicles for testing at Auburn you came to mind. There is likely more approvals required from Nuro before making a final allocation, but I wanted to gage your interest before contacting other universities. In total, I think we have ~20+ vehicles.
You can see some of the specifications of this vehicle using the link below.
https://nuro.sfo3.digitaloceanspaces.com/Nuro_R2-Spec-Sheet-Letter.pdf<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fnuro.sfo3.digitaloceanspaces.com%2FNuro_R2-Spec-Sheet-Letter.pdf&data=05%7C02%7Ccaice-csse%40eng.auburn.edu%7Cb225fd6958014114e57b08dd423b651e%7Cccb6deedbd294b388979d72780f62d3b%7C0%7C0%7C638739545063012153%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=zHm0mtvb2ku36xJTVW7NuAP4b17eR5VYN98NM%2F0xtRo%3D&reserved=0>
It's worth noting, these vehicles will have some modifications from the specifications listed:
* Integrated long range and short range sensors will remain on the vehicle
* The compute system will be removed from the vehicle
* No Nuro Software will be on the vehicle
* The battery will remain in the vehicle
* Nuro designed remote control (RC) transmitter will remain with each vehicle
The responsibility of transporting these vehicles from Santa Clara, CA will be the responsibility of the university. While I don't have a formal quote to share, I know that from previous experiences the irregular dimensions (custom sensor pod on the arched roof, non-standard wheel-base, etc.) had led to around $15k per one way delivery of our vehicles across the country but maybe there is an opportunity to reduce the transportation costs to make this more cost effective.
Finally, Nuro would not provide ongoing support of any kind and there are no warranties on the hardware. It's pretty transactional, but we could see if there is an opportunity for a light one-time "transition" to make sure there's a proper hand-off and minimal documentation.
Let me know if you think this is interesting to Auburn and we can find some time to discuss either tomorrow (Friday 1/31) or early next week.
Thanks,
Brad
